Junior football team misses semifinal berth

Odisha failed to qualify for the semifinals as it suffered a 7-2 drubbing at the hands of Mizoram in their third and last Group-B league match of the 49th Junior National Football Championship (Tier-I) for B C Roy Trophy at Birsa Munda Stadium in Ranchi today.

Led by Hari Mohan Soren, Odisha got off to a flying start with Mukesh Minz scoring twice in the fifth and eighth minutes. But after leading 2-0, Odisha made a meek surrender by conceding seven goals. Odisha finished with four points, while Mizoram qualified for the semifinals with 12 points.

Earlier, Odisha beat Haryana 2-0 in their opening match but were held to a goalless draw in the next match by Uttar Pradesh. Sujit Tirkey and Mukesh Minz scored the two goals against Haryana.
